Testing · 5 min read

Who does the testing, what gets tested, and what a passing result can — and cannot — tell you.

Independent laboratories

Third-party testing means a laboratory that is independent of the brand analyzes product samples. Independence reduces conflicts of interest.

What is commonly tested

Typical panels include identity (is it the right ingredient?), potency (is the labeled amount present?), heavy metals (such as lead, arsenic, cadmium and mercury) and microbiological contaminants.

What a result does not tell you

A passing test confirms quality attributes of a sample. It does not show that a product is effective for any health purpose.
